  abstract = {This article deals with the modern Chinese leadership under President Xi Jinping. The study places great emphasis on the Belt and Road Initiative, which has come to characterize the Chinese president’s strategy. A less empathetic and more pragmatic approach to global governance has emerged in recent Beijing presidencies. China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) seeks to improve global financial integration, trade liberalization, and infrastructure connectivity. The BRI’s potential to meet Beijing’s desire for global governance leadership is assessed using the most widely utilized International Relations theories. According to the neorealist paradigm, the newly developed BRI institutions, along with unique norms and practices, have a substantial deconcentrating and delegitimizing influence on certain of the Western-cantered global governance systems. In a neoliberal worldview, the BRI and international commitments complement one another, enhancing China’s role as a responsible state and increasing its influence in a shifting global governance pattern.},
