This article describes how Canada's Halifax Class Canadian Patrol Frigates (CPF) and CP-140 (Aurora) fixed wing aircraft are to be upgraded with optimized multi-source data fusion systems (MSDF), in order to better deal with the more demanding threat and mission environments that will exist in the future. The article describes in detail the efforts to restructure and optimize the proof-of-concept MSDF algorithms in order to build and demonstrate a new real-time prototype for tracking and identification by the end of the year 2000.
