Grid Computing is the latest development in an evolution that earlier brought forth advances such as distributed computing, internet and collaborative computing. Grid computing connects computers that are scattered over a wide geographic area, allowing their computing power to be shared. Grids are emerging as a new computing paradigm for solving grand challenge application in science, engineering, and economics through the sharing and collaboration of heterogeneous resources. Recently, the entities from trusted institutions only are put together to collaborate and form the grid. However, to enable expansion of grid systems beyond organisational boundaries, it is necessary to share resources between unknown, un-trusted parties. Using reputation as a means of building trust in these multiple organisations is considered one of the powerful tools that will enable expansion of grid beyond the organisational boundaries. This paper provides an analysis and identifies how assessing reputation using reputation based trust systems in wide areas of e-commerce and Peer to Peer (P2P) systems will fulfill the requirements of grid computing, anticipating a further inclusion of reputation-based trust systems for establishing trust in grid systems for massive scale deployments and use. This paper also discusses our TUX-TMS, a reputation-based trust model for establishing secure grids.
