Good leadership in politics as well as in business embraces and deals with uncertainty. It uses empathy to mobilize resilience and creativity, resists oversimplifications and quick decisions, and communicates consistently and in a transparent and accountable manner. Bad leadership—often by mere imitations of good leadership, and therefore prone to confuse the innocent—promotes insecurity and uncertainty. This volume includes a collection of articles offering contemporary views on leadership issues in uncertainty and situations of transition and how to tackle uncertainty. It represents both analytical approaches to addressing uncertainty and novel treatises from leadership and management theories.
